Mr Duncan J Summerton is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Leicester General Hospital and an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Leicester.
After graduation in 1987, he undertook general surgical and urological training in Plymouth, Southampton and Portsmouth, obtaining Reconstructive Fellowships in the USA and at the Institute of Urology and also in advanced Andrological surgery, including prosthetic surgery.
Appointed Consultant in 2001 in Portsmouth, he moved to Leicester in 2005 on leaving the Royal Navy after 19 years of active service which included numerous deployments to areas of unrest and conflict throughout the world.
He Chairs the East Midlands Regional Training Committee and formed the East Midlands Penile cancer Supra-network (6.5 million population) – one of the busiest in the UK. He chaired the European Association of Urology (EAU) Guidelines Panel in Urological Trauma 2009-15 and Examines at the Medical School and for FRCS (Urol), sitting on the Intercollegiate Board of Urology until 2017.
He was elected by his peers to the office of Vice President of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) in 2016 after serving terms as Chairman of the Section of Andrology and Genito-Urethral Surgery (AGUS), Regional Representative, Honorary Secretary and became President in June 2018.
